Research Interests

My scientific work is in theoretical solid state physics. The main topic is "electronic many body effects" in solids. Earlier work included e. g. correlation effects in surface physics, electronic friction and work on a proper inclusion of many body effects in the theoretical description of electron spectroscopies with applications to mixed valent compounds and the non-Fermi-liquid behaviour in quasi-one-dimensional conductors ("Luttinger liquids"). The "functional renormalization group" method is used as a new tool to study e. g. the transport through quantum wires and quantum dots.
